The new magazine combines Colt’s experience in small arms technology with Lancer’s material and product design capabilities. The new magazine is designed to allow the visual inspection of the contents of the magazine while providing the operational reliability associated with metal magazines. Developed from a Lancer proprietary material, the body of the magazine is physically robust and strong through a wide range of temperatures as well as resistant to chemicals typically encountered by the warfighter. The translucent plastic was formulated to have a tint and texture to conceal the reflection of the ammunition while still allowing visual examination of the contents of the magazine. The magazine has also been designed to allow for easy disassembly to facilitate cleaning. A pre-production quantity of magazines is currently undergoing extensive testing which includes; elevated temperature firing, extreme low temperature firing, impact, drop, chemical compatibility and endurance firing.
